A47 - 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Reading Format)
The parable of the wedding feast condemns the self-righteousness and contempt with which the Jews had treated God’s Grace. In this parable, Jesus brings clarity and love to the subject of the Kingdom of Heaven.
In this story:
- The king represents God.
- His Son represents Jesus, the Bridegroom.
- His servants are all of those who understand and go and spread the Good News.
- The Wedding Banquet is salvation and eternal life.
- The guests are those who are invited to God’s Heavenly banquet.
- The wedding garment represents repentance, a change of heart and mind, a new way of life. The wedding garment also signifies love from a pure heart and from a good conscience and is necessary for entrance into the Kingdom of Heaven.
- The wedding invitation represents the request to be an honored guest at the Banquet Feast to be held at the end of time! This invitation is a generous gift that is offered free of charge.
- The Kingdom of Heaven is the rule and reign of God in our Hearts, a state of the soul, into which we are all invited here and now to enter!
